INTERVIEW: Liam Halligan talks to Matt Goodwin
Liam joins leading political analyst to discuss the UK's fiscal fragility – and much more
Earlier this week, I sat down to chat with the political analyst and academic Professor Matthew Goodwin.
We covered a great deal of ground in our one-hour discussion, including subjects largely ignored in the mainstream press such as the UK’s emerging sovereign debt crisis, the government’s spiralling interest bill and why Britain is becoming increasingly isolated – an outlier among the G7, paying more to borrow than other industrialised nations.
We also talked about Labour’s forthcoming budget, whether Chancellor Rachel Reeves will survive, what Liz Truss got right (and wrong) and what needs to be done if the UK is to escape the current “debt doom loop” - a pivotal issue which is being increasingly discussed by traders working for the pension funds, insurance companies and sovereign wealth funds that lend governments serious money.
